About Cal Pozo

After a back injury sustained while dancing in a production of West Side Story, Cal relied on the study and practice of Pilates and Yoga as his primary means of physical therapy. His injury halted his dance performing career, but his rehabilitation paved the way to a diversified media-related career where his dance and fitness training have played a major role. Cal's productions have generated multiple Triple Platinum titles and successful video brands viewed by an estimated forty million consumers of homevideo.

Among the most popular fitness personalities whose workout programs Cal has produced are Denise Austin, Leslie Sansone, Kathy Smith, David Kirsch, Tony Little, Johny G and Gurmuk Khalsa to list a few. Included among them are also television celebrities Regis Philbin, Kathy Lee Gifford, Heidi Klum and internationally recognized fitness experts Jennifer Kries, Tracey Mallet and his friend and production associate, Lisa Wheeler.


A list of career highlights include:


Creating, directing and choreographing The Method video series, widely credited as being the first in introducing the dance and physical rehabilitative-related work of Joseph Pilates to home video consumers, and subsequently creating a television show (The Method TV - The Health Network) based on that series. Segments from the year-long season appear frequently on cable networks.

 

Biggest Loser DVD Covers

 

For NBC Studios and Reveille Entertainment, Cal has produced and directed three DVD titles based on their hit tv show, The Biggest Loser. The programs feature workout segments based on the show's concept and led by its celebrity trainers Bob Harper, Jillian Michaels and Kym Lyons.

For ABC and BBC Worldwide Entertainment, he's directed and choreographed Dancing With the Stars Cardio DVD (Lionsgate Home Entertainment). This title held its Number 1 placement on VideoScan charts for most of 2007.

A new DVD production featuring various Latin dances and led by two of the show's stars, Cheryl Burke and Maksim Chmerkovskly, is scheduled for release in the spring of 2008.


Cal is also the designer and writer of The Dancers Workout, an exercise program featured in the Dancing With the Stars book (2007 - Harper Collins).

Most recently Cal's ballroom dance and creative skills have come together in a new book: "Cal Pozo's Let's Dance" (Hatherleigh Pres/Ramdom House). Being released in January of 2008, it is a complete learning guide to the most popular ballroom dances, and includes a bonus DVD that goes along with each of the book's chapters.

DanceFit® Salsa Sizzle, DanceFit Latin Retro, and DanceFit Dancers Abs and Legs, a new series created by Cal is being released in March of 2008 by Gaiam. It is based on a concept which Cal has coined as Cardio Ballroom Fitness Fusion ® and that combines signature ballroom steps and moves with traditional aerobic dance moves. A second and totally new learn-to-dance DVD series titled, Cal Pozo's Partner Dancing 101, will be released by Gaiam during the summer of 2008.

 


Dirty Dancing

 

 

And to be released in the Fall of 2008, Cal has recently directed and choreographed "Dirty Dancing - the Workout" (Lionsgate Films). This hour-long DVD features dance-based workout sequences fashionedafter the film's choreography and performed to some of its hit soundtracks.

 


 

 

learn to danceCal Pozo is also the author of several fitness books and the host of the Triple Platinum ballroom dance instructional series Cal Pozo's Learn To Dance In Minutes.

 

He was born in Havana, Cuba, and attended Ohio's Bowling Green State University (BS - Dance Arts and Journalism) and New York University (Film/Video Production). He served as Artistic Director of Dancers Theatre Workshop of Miami and of Act 48 Studios in New York. For PPI Entertainment he was VP of Fitness Production and Development and has received several production awards including an HBO Spirit Award, several Parent's Choice Awards as well as Best Buy Consumer Digest Recognition Awards. He lives in New York City from where he runs his production company, Fitvid Productions LLC.
